Sask. RCMP Major Crimes charge man with second-degree murder

MONTREAL LAKE CREE NATION – A 29-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of 41-year-old Kevin Stewart from Montreal Lake Cree Nation Sunday.

On Nov. 12, at about 3:15 a.m., Waskesiu/Montreal Lake RCMP received a request to assist EMS at a home on Montreal Lake Cree Nation.

When officers arrived, they found an injured man, who was pronounced deceased by EMS at the scene. Stewart’s family has been notified and victim services made available to them.

Walker Smith was arrested at the scene without incident and charged with second-degree murder and uttering threats.

He was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Nov. 14.
