SASKATOON – A hearing for a Cree medicine man to reverse his guilty plea was adjourned on July 6 to Sept. 12 in Saskatoon Provincial Court.

Cecil Wolfe, 62, was charged with more than a dozen sexual assault charges. Wolfe is accused of the offences while he was acting as a healer.

Last year Wolfe had pleaded guilty but before he was sentenced he fired his Saskatoon Cree lawyer and hired Alberta criminal lawyer Harvey Neufeld.

Police say Wolfe misrepresented himself as a Cree medicine man to gain access to victims in Saskatchewan. According to Saskatoon police, they got a report on April 26, 2021, that a woman had been sexually assaulted. Saskatoon Police Service Sex Crimes Unit investigated and charged him with four counts of sexual assault and the RCMP charged him with seven offences in their jurisdictions from Loon Lake and Muskeg Lake Cree Nation.

Wolfe was arrested in December 2021 and is out on bail.

Investigators believe there may be additional victims from over the past 20 years in Loon Lake, Blaine Lake, Muskeg Lake Cree Nation, Saskatoon and surrounding areas. Victims are encouraged to contact their local police service if they have information to share.
