SASKATOON – Saskatchewan’s Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) is investigating a Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) officer-involved shooting that occurred earlier Saturday morning.
Shortly after 2:30 a.m., Feb. 3, members of the Tactical Support Unit were assisting in the execution of a search warrant in the 600 block of Lisgar Avenue related to an aggravated assault investigation involving firearms. During the incident, a SPS member discharged their firearm. One suspect, a 34-year-old man, suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to hospital and is believed to be in stable condition.
Two females were also arrested at the scene. Officers also located a deceased body inside the home and the death is considered suspicious and unrelated to police actions.
The SPS Major Crime Section is investigating.
Traffic restrictions are expected to be in place in the area of Lisgar Avenue for some time. Members of the public are asked to avoid the area as the investigation continues.
Within the criteria set out in The Police Act, 1990, the Saskatoon Police Service has notified the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team of the incident. Following the notification, SIRT’s Civilian Executive Director has accepted carriage of the investigation. Further details about the officer-involved shooting will be provided by SIRT.
