SPS Gang Unit officers use Tazer on suspect during altercation

Officers from the Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) Guns & Gangs Unit were trying to arrest a suspect known to be in violation of court-imposed conditions inside a mall in the 200 block of 1st Avenue South.

SASKATOON – A 19-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after a physical altercation resulted in the deployment of a conducted energy weapon.

At approximately 2:45 p.m., on Jan. 16, members of the Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) Guns & Gangs Unit were attempting to arrest a suspect known to be in violation of court-imposed conditions inside a mall in the 200 block of 1st Avenue South. He refused to comply with officer directions and a physical altercation ensued resulting in a police member deploying their conducted energy weapon. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident and transported to SPS Detention.

In addition to breaching his court-imposed conditions, he is also charged with assaulting a police officer.
