SASKATOON – A fire in a home in the 300 block of Whitney Avenue South in Saskatoon is suspicious, says the Saskatoon Fire Department [SFD] who has turned over the investigation to the Saskatoon Police Service.
The fire started in the living room and caused $75,000 in damage.
On April 2, at 8:10 p.m., the SFD received a report of a possible structure fire. Three fire engines, one ladder truck, one rescue unit and the Battalion Chief responded. First arriving fire crews reported nothing showing on the exterior of the structure. A fire crew went into the interior and found fire damage on the main floor with possible fire in the attic. A fire Investigator was then requested.
Crews accessed the attic space and identified hot spots. Utilities were shut down for scene safety reasons. The fire scene was turned over to Fire Investigator at 9:40 p.m. who has begun a scene examination. A cause, origin, damage estimate and update will be provided once available, say the SFD.
No injuries to residents or firefighters were reported.
