SASKATOON – A third person, Michael Scott Smillie, 55, has been charged in connection with the murder of Taya Sinclair. Smillie was arrested at a home in Saskatoon on July 12 by members of the Prince Albert Police Service Criminal Investigation Division and the Saskatoon police.
Smillie was charged with first-degree murder and appeared in Saskatoon Provincial Court Thursday morning. He was remanded in custody and appears again on July 20.
Two other people have been charged in Sinclair’s death. Stephanie Halkett-Stevenson was charged with first-degree murder in January. She is back in court July 19. Chelsey Crowe was arrested in June and charged with manslaughter, unlawful confinement, and assault causing bodily harm. She appears in court next on July 25.
Sinclair was found deceased on March 15, 2022, in an area south of the Alfred Jenkins Field House in Prince Albert.
The Criminal Investigation Division from Prince Albert Police Service say they continue to investigate.
