Vigil for Gregory Cope draws crowd Sunday

Finlayson Island was chosen as the location because it was Gregory Cope’s favourite spot in the Battlefords.

BATTLEFORDS – A candlelight vigil for 32-year-old Gregory Cope was held on Finlayson Island Sunday.

Cope’s body was found by police by in the debris of a house fire in Battleford on Feb. 27. Cope was reported as missing to Battlefords RCMP on Feb. 21. Police say they are investigating his death as a homicide.

Finlayson Island was chosen as the location because it was Cope’s favourite spot in the Battlefords, said Dan Dillabough, Cope’s cousin.

In lieu of Teddy bears, flowers and other mementos, organizers had asked for donations to the Gofundme for Cope’s sons.
