UNITY – With the provincial election already underway for the past week, the candidates for the Cut Knife – Turtleford constituency are hot on the campaign trail.
During the first week of campaigning, Sask United Party candidate Steve Gessner, made a quick stop to talk to SaskToday.ca and Unity-Wilkie Press-Herald on his way to help finish up harvest near Landis, introducing himself and his platform.
With a big draw over the Oct. 4 weekend with the 41st annual Unity Fall Fair and Tradeshow, candidates James Thorsteinson and Clayton Poole mingled with voters as they checked out the local vendors. Poole made sure to stop at many of the booths, talking to both those behind the tables and in front of them.
On Oct. 7, Thorsteinson was back in Unity to tour both business ventures of the North West Terminal Ltd, the elevator and the ethanol plant. CEO Jason Skinner and board member Merv Slater were on hand to greet the candidate before touring the facilities. Neil Boser, Grains Operation manager with North West Terminal, took Thorsteinson through the elevator, explaining how the operations run on a day to day business.
After a tour on the grain side of the inland terminal, Jason Goring with NW Pure led the Saskatchewan Party candidate through the ethanol plant, showing him how the distilling process is done and where the mash is dried for animal feed.
Candidate profiles will be available soon online at SaskToday.ca and in the Unity-Wilkie Press-Herald.
