REGINA - Oct. 28 has finally arrived with the final day of voting to conclude Election Week.
Voters cast their ballots today until polls close at 8 pm, at which point the counting begins. It will be the culmination of Voting Week which began Oct. 22 and continued up to today, with a day off on Sunday.
Voting Week has seen more ballots cast in advance than at any time in Saskatchewan history. A total of 273,010 ballots have been cast prior to Monday.
The leaders have already cast their ballots. NDP leader Carla Beck was with her family in Regina Lakeview on Monday morning as they voted in the Cathedral neighbourhood at St. Mary the Virgin Anglican Church.
Last week, the Sask Party’s Scott Moe and his wife Krista cast their votes in Shellbrook.
As well, Sask. United Leader Jon Hromek and his wife Jenn also voted in advance last week in Lumsden-Morse.
The weekend saw the parties make their final push for votes. On Saturday the Saskatchewan Party held their final rally in Saskatoon at Prairieland Park, with Saskatoon and area candidates in attendance.
There, Moe once again made his pitch that a vote for the Saskatchewan Party was for a strong economy and bright future, while again warning against the “decline loss and closures” of the NDP.
The NDP campaign saw Beck in Saskatoon on Saturday outside Royal University Hospital alongside workers in healthcare and education. On Sunday she wrapped her tour at her campaign office in Regina alongside supporters and Regina candidates.
Hromek’s campaign has also wrapped up, with the Sask United leader appearing at a campaign event in Pilot Butte Friday.
Now the leaders wait for election night. Moe plans to watch the results and then speak to supporters at the main hockey rink in Shellbrook, Beck will speak to supporters later in downtown Regina, and Hromek plans to speak later tonight in Lumsden, where Sask United has an election watch party set up.
