Four candidates vie for Batoche seat

SUP, NDP, Sask Party and Green Party represented.

BATOCHE — The constituency of Batoche will see four candidates vying for a seat in the provincial legislature on Oct. 28, as voters decide who will best represent their interests.

Darlene Rowden of Saskatchewan Party, Trina Miller of the New Democratic Party (NDP), Erin Nicole Spencer of the Saskatchewan United Party (SUP) and Hamish Graham of the Saskatchewan Green Party are to compete for the spot that was previously held by Delbert Kirsch, Sask. Party.

Darlene Rowden, Saskatchewan Party

Rowden and her family own and operate R&B Wilson Ranching, a fourth-generation ranch near MacDowall. She has been active in agricultural and educational sectors, serving on the Prince Albert Exhibition Board and as a 4-H Beef leader. A long-time school board trustee, she is currently the chairwoman of the Saskatchewan Rivers School Division. Rowden has volunteered on the Saskatchewan Party’s Batoche Constituency Association since 2010 and has served as provincial director since 2011. Rowden and her husband live near MacDowall. They have three children.

Trina Miller, NDP

Miller is running as the NDP candidate, bringing a background of community service and advocacy. A postal worker across the Batoche area and former school board trustee with the Prairie Spirit School Division, Miller is known as a dedicated volunteer, advocate, partner and mother of seven. She has served on the Inclusion Saskatchewan’s inclusive education committee. Miller’s campaign focuses on affordability, rural health care and better funding for education.

Erin Nicole Spencer, SUP

A business owner and entrepreneur, Spencer is known for pioneering the lash extension industry in Canada and opening a successful beauty studio in Saskatchewan. She has received several accolades, including the Samuel McCloud Young Entrepreneur Award in 2018. In her business career, Spencer created initiatives like the Kindness Project and the Be-You-Tiful Project, which provided transformative experiences to deserving individuals through community-driven efforts. Spencer, who resides in Warman, is campaigning on issues of community support, family values and local economic development.

Hamish Graham, Green Party

Graham, representing the Green Party, returns to the ballot after running in the same constituency in 2020 and federally in 2021. Graham, a haskap orchard owner near Birch Hills, has been active in promoting the locally-grown fruit and is a former president of Haskap Canada. He and his wife are on the board of Ness Core Ventures, nurturing the Ness Creek Music Festival site and its many community initiatives and helping to support emerging Saskatchewan musicians. Graham is also the father of Green Party leader Naomi Hunter.
