NDP candidate Jordan McPhail declared Cumberland winner

The Cumberland riding was a close race all evening, with NDP Candidate, Jordan McPhail being declared the new MLA.

CUMBERLAND - Jordan McPhail is declared unofficial winner in Cumberland riding.

McPhail took 2230 votes with the Sask Party candidate, Gregory Seib of the Sask Party with 1575. The Green Party had 157 votes and 49 votes for the independent. "Today, I am filled with gratitude. Cumberland, I will serve you with a full heart, poised and dedicated to fulfill my duties as your MLA," McPhail said after his election win.

McPhail has been a La Ronge Town councillor but will now have the title of MLA in the Cumberland riding. McPhail was gathered with his family and around 50 supporters at local, Marker 47 Cafe for election night in La Ronge to watch the election. McPhail is 31 years old and is one of the youngest candidates to be elected to the legislature. He hopes to work on the issues of healthcare, education and inflation. McPhail also added mental health and addictions is also a high priority in his constituency.

He credits his team and thanked them for the countless hours people took to help deliver a Cumberland win. "This is a shared honour," he said.

"As the torch is passed from Doyle to myself, I have to say thank you for being in my corner, for being an amazing mentor, and for serving this constituency for the many years you have. I hope I will do you and the people proud bringing the changes Cumberland deserves."

Doyle Vermette was the Sask NDP MLA in Cumberland since 2008.
