There are four candidates so far lining up to contest the seat of Prince Albert Carlton in the provincial election.

PRINCE ALBERT - There are four candidates so far lining up to contest the seat of Prince Albert Carlton in the provincial election.

They include Kevin Kasun, Sask Party; Carolyn Brost Strom, NDP; Denneil Carpenter, Sask. United Party; and Andrew Muirhead, Green party. The incumbent, Joe Hargrave of the Sask Party, is not running in this election.

Kevin Kasun won a contested nomination on Aug. 21 to be the Saskatchewan Party’s candidate for Prince Albert Carlton in the 2024 provincial election. He defeated one other candidate.

“I am honoured to stand before you tonight as your Saskatchewan Party candidate,” Kasun said. “I will be working tirelessly to connect with every voter in Prince Albert Carlton, and to build momentum heading into the upcoming election.”

Kasun has previously worked in the transportation industry, starting in trucking before moving to the rail industry where he became a locomotive engineer. After moving to Prince Albert, he began working with Canada Post and Correctional Service Canada.

Kasun and his wife Shevawn are raising two teenage children.

Carolyn Brost Strom has spent 20 years in the health care sector, working as a Registered Nurse and educator. Most recently, she has served as a Public Health Nurse with the Prince Albert Grand Council. Using her extensive experience, she is ready to address the complex needs of the province through collaboration with front-line workers and all levels of government.

While raising her family in Prince Albert, Brost Strom has seen concerns about crime, homelessness and mental health and addictions increase.

The Saskatchewan Green Party announced their Prince Albert Carlton candidate, Andrew Muirhead.

Andrew was born in Saskatoon and lived there until he was eight years old. He was hit by a car and really badly injured. This influenced his family to move to Waldheim.

There he was involved for years helping take care of an expanding family of siblings. He already had one sister when they moved, then his mom had another baby, the family

adopted Ashley, his cousin (through a Person of Sufficient Interest order); then they adopted Ashley’s mom’s infant kids as well.

Andrew provided care for all of them through much of his growing-up years. The kids all had autism and other special needs. This really sparked his interest in helping kids who were in “the system.”

This early lived experience is a big factor on Andrew’s path to run for the Green Party. His compassion for the suffering of others will be a prime asset if he wins a seat in the Legislature.

Sask United Party candidate Denneil Carpenter was born and raised in Prince Albert. He started out in the west flat of Prince Albert then moved to a farm in the Meath Park area.

Denneil became very involved with 4-H, and was a part of the 4-H Provincial Board of Directors. He was also a part of the Prince Albert and Melfort Board of Directors for the Exhibitions.

Denneil started a career in the oil field in Alberta while still living in Prince Albert. He worked towards his Journeyman’s certificate in scaffolding and later acquired his National Construction Safety Certificate. After 16 years in the oil field, Denneil decided he wanted to spend more time with his three young children and work closer to home.

Three years ago, he started his own small business converting an old school bus into a food truck, and has been successfully serving the public at local events and throughout the city.

Denneil is excited to help out his community and represent the people of Prince Albert. He will advocate for less taxes and more quality jobs for the people of Saskatchewan. He is passionate about supporting teachers and nurses and securing a bright future for Saskatchewan.
