REGINA - The riding of Regina Wascana Plains has five parties competing to win the riding, the most of any riding in the Regina area.
Regina Wascana Plains has been held by Christine Tell and the Saskatchewan Party since 2007.
Tell has served multiple legislative roles, most recently being the Minister of Environment.
Tell grew up in Regina, attending Miller High School. She served three years in the Saskatoon Police Service before joining Regina’s city police. She is also married and has two kids.
In the 2020 election for Regina Wascana Plains, the Sask Party received over 63 per cent of the votes compared to the next party.
In that election, the New Democrats and candidate Mike Sinclair got 32 per cent of the votes.
For the 2024 election in Regina Wascana Plains, the NDP will send out a new candidate to win Regina Wascana Plains Brent Blakley.
Born and raised in Regina, Blakley attended school at the University of Regina, where he completed his education degree.
Blakley has 35 years of experience in education, teaching numerous grades and schools.
He also volunteers as a football and basketball coach for the Sheldon-Williams Spartans and Regina Riot.
The newly formed Saskatchewan United Party, with candidate Dustin Plett, are also running for Regina Wascana Plains.
Plett was born in Manitoba and worked as a journeyman welder before ending up in the technology industry.
Plett distinguished himself as a leader in the tech industry, serving a higher-up role at Balance. He is also a councillor in the Resort Village of Kannata Valley.
The SUP hopes to establish themselves in the capital of Saskatchewan.
The fourth party running for Regina Wascana Plains is the Saskatchewan Green Party with candidate Bo Chen.
Chen is an entrepreneur and has worked for 12 years as a proprietor of a travel agency. Chen also owns a restaurant in Regina. He got his education from the University of Waterloo in Ont.
Chen has also organized Regina Chinatown in 2019 and 2023.
The Sask Green Party in the 2020 election for Regina Wascana Plains got 2.20 per cent of the votes in the riding.
The last party running for Regina Wascana Plains are the Progressive Conservative Party of Saskatchewan.
The PCs are rolling with candidate Larry Buchinski for the riding. Buchinski has experience serving unions, including SEIU-West and the Saskatchewan Government and General Employees’ Union.
These five parties will compete for Regina Wascana Plains in the provincial election on Oct. 28.
