WEYBURN - There has been a lot of concern recently with the development and use of Artificial Intelligence. The concern that Artificial Intelligence will rise up, and take over the human race itself might be influenced by movies like ‘The Terminator’, M3GAN, and even iRobot.

A generative AI can be a useful tool that helps improve our lives, and inspire new ideas and creativity for those that use it. Instead of fearing or ignoring this new advancement in technology, we all should be embracing change, and learning how to best utilize and how to monitor using AI.

Some of you might be familiar with the concern of using ChatGPT for essays and writing material. However, if you really look at it, what is different from inputting values into the ChatGPT to give you inspiration and ideas, than say looking up resource materials in a library, or Googling for information online?

Programs like ChatGPT and others like it will be future required programs for our youth. Instead of worrying about them using these programs to plagiarize work, we should be helping them to learn the relevant skills in utilizing the program, and how to properly source any materials that they use in essays and other writing projects.

There have been many other technology advancements that are now part of our day-to-day lives. Remember when a mobile phone was only used by busy business-people? Now, the mobile phone is so common, that many young children are skilled in using one.

I have been learning to use YESEO, a generative AI that helps review search engine optimization (SEO) keywords and sentences for online stories. It is those SEOs that become necessary when someone is using a search engine (like Google) to look up information, and helps our SASKTODAY.ca website to be in the top searches for news stories.

There is a balance as we go down the road of using AI. We need to be a little more realistic in the capabilities of AI development, and make sure the proper safeguards are in place.
