REGINA — A pair of school divisions lost over $22,000 of public money.

According to the province’s latest public money lost report, the Living Sky School Division lost $15,552 after a school employee allegedly misappropriated funds.

The employee has since been fired, and the matter has been reported to the RCMP.

The province says that the school division has increased the frequency of internal audits and is implementing new online software to accept fees and payments to reduce the volume of cash handled in the schools.

The Regina Roman Catholic School Division also lost $9,600 after 12 laptops were stolen.

An employee was fired after being suspected of being involved in the thefts. Police and the RCMP are currently investigating.

The school is enhancing physical security protocols for IT asset inventory.
