Unity hotelman Ray Leier announced he too would seek the provincial Liberal nomination for the vacancy created when Cliff McIsaac moved on to federal politics.

Frank Richard became a resident alcoholism counsellor at the Wilkie Union Hospital, serving both the Wilkie and Unity areas.

Scott were champions of the Men’s Fastball League, beating Swarthmore two straight in the final series.

Luseland town council asked the administrator to write Interprovincial Steel and Pipe Corp. Ltd, Regina, “advising them that unless the scrap iron on the CPR right of way is not either tidied up or removed within 30 days, the material will be hauled to the nuisance grounds by town crew and the company will be billed for the work.”

20 years ago

Concerns were raised about the provincial government’s school board amalgamation plans. The main problem was “the proposed amalgamation map absorbs Battlefords and runs as far north as Leoville and cuts out the bottom half of the current Landswest Division leaving Kerrobert and Major out of the picture … All the local boards are pushing to keep the Landswest division together.”

Unity town council was pondering a ban on the sale of bottled beer, except in taverns and restaurants, due to the increasing number of broken beer bottles littering the streets.

Repeat winners in the Unity Golf Club championships were Peter Gartner, senior men; Myrna Hermiston, ladies; Betty Housen, senior ladies; and Colin Thalmeimer, juniors. New to the podium was men’s champ, Brent Heitt.
