Blast from the Past: Unity golfers win at Sask. Seniors' Games

Along with the band students pictured, also attending the Summer School of the Arts were Anne Schroh of Luseland, Cindy Lea Harris and Carole Loveday of Landis, and Heather Diehl of Unity. Heather was taking ballet classes while the others were studying creative writing.

Dr. L. A. Olfert was welcomed to Unity.

Hal Harris of the Unity Cardinals was leading the batting stats in the Northern Saskatchewan Baseball League with an average of .388.

The Saskatchewan Wheat Pool was hosting a number of activities for all ages, including a horseshoe tournament and a chicken barbeque supper, at Scott Experimental Farm, to celebrate the Pool’s 50th anniversary.

Hunter’s Trailer and Marine Centre was advertising 17-foot aluminum canoes for $219.

Wanting to know why consumers purchase certain products, Denzil student Jordan Schechtel won a $3,000 scholarship for his essay from the Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers.

The Unity Bantam Panthers beat the Unity Rustlers ladies’ team in an all-Unity final to win the Battleford Ladies’ Softball League championship. The winning pitcher, Hayley Dommett, was named playoff MVP.

Wet weather was helping thin out the grasshoppers, perhaps helping prevent a second year of grasshopper population explosion. Meanwhile, the mix of rain and sunshine was pointing towards bumper crops in the area and several local suppliers were already sold out of grain bins.
