REGINA — The University of Regina has announced that Cadmus Delorme has been elected to serve as chair of the board of governors, effective July 1. Delorme was originally appointed to the board in January 2020 and has served as chair of the Human Resources Committee and interim vice-chair of the board. He will replace outgoing Chair Dr. Marlene Smadu.
Delorme was most recently chief of the Cowessess First Nation. After graduating high school at the Cowessess Community Education Centre, he attended the University of Regina and received a Bachelor of Administration through the First Nations University of Canada in 2013. Delorme continued his higher learning and in 2016, achieved a graduate degree in Public Administration from the Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy. He has also received ICD.D. designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors and affiliate institution, Kenneth Levene Graduate School of Business.
The board has also elected Adynea Russell, FCPA, FCA as vice-chair, also effective July 1. Russell was elected to the board by Senate in July 2022 and has served as a member of the Audit & Risk Management and Human Resources Committees. Russell is an Assurance Partner in MNP’s Regina office and has held leadership roles at the firm level, most recently as Vice-President Assurance for MNP. With more than 25 years of experience in public practice, she works with private and public companies and government organizations of all sizes, conducting audits, reviews and compilations, providing tax services and helping them stay compliant.
There are also several other changes to the composition of the University’s Board of Governors for 2023-2024.
Two new members have been appointed by the Government of Saskatchewan through Order-in-Council: Karri Howlett and Kyle Addison. They replace former Vice-Chair Gary Bosgoed and former Governor David Chow.
Karri Howlett is the president of Karri Howlett Consulting Inc., based in Saskatoon. Howlett holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) in Finance from the University of Saskatchewan, and has a Chartered Director designation, in addition to a CFA. She serves as a board member of several organizations including NexGen Energy, Saskatchewan Trade and Export Partnership, Gold Royalty Corp., and March Consulting.
Kyle Addison is the chief operating officer of Mitchell Developments Ltd. Addison holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the Paul J. Hill School of Business. He is currently serving as vice chair of the Regina District Chamber of Commerce. He previously served on the University’s Board of Governors as a student when he was the president of the University of Regina Students’ Union.
Cadmus Delorme and Mark Lang have also been reappointed as board members by the Government of Saskatchewan for a second term.
Monica Deters was elected by Senate and will replace Dr. Marlene Smadu. Smadu was elected to the Board by Senate in July 2017 and re-elected in July 2020. She began her role as Vice-Chair in August 2019, and she took on the role of Chair starting October 2021.
Monica Deters has worked for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police since 2008, and currently manages the Saskatchewan RCMP Crime Analysis Program. She is also an assistant coach for the University of Regina Cougars Womens’ soccer team. Deters holds a Bachelor of Human Justice and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Regina. She serves as the Senate Representative for the University of Regina Alumni Association and sits on the RCMP’s Gender Harassment Advisory Committee and their Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
In addition to the above changes:
Dr. Andrew Cameron was elected by Council as the faculty member to serve on the board, effective July 1. He replaces Dr. Carlos Londoño Sulkin. Dr. Sulkin has served on the board since July 2017 and will complete his term on June 30.
Students’ Union President Tejas Patel replaces Navjot Kaur as the University of Regina Students’ Union representative. He will serve a one-year term.
Dr. Jeff Keshen will continue his service to the board as an ex-officio member. Also continuing their service for 2023-2024 are Chancellor Pamela Klein and Leanne Bellegarde, K.C. of Saskatoon.
