A look at the deconstruction of Gordon block as it was happening this week in Regina.

REGINA - The fire at the Gordon Block building on 12th Avenue in Regina was deliberately set.

That is word from the investigation that was completed Friday by Regina Fire and Protective Services of the fire that occurred at 2170 – 12th Ave.

According to the statement from the City of Regina, the investigation confirmed the building was clear of any occupants, and determined the "cause of this fire was incendiary or deliberately set, with the area of origin located inside the main entrance of the building."

The city's statement adds that Regina Fire and Protective Service will continue to support Regina Police Service in the further investigation into the circumstances involved with this fire.

The Gordon Block building was being demolished this week following a major fire that occurred at the property on Sunday morning, causing major structural damage to the interior of the building.

The fire occurred at the same time that an individual was on a spree damaging gas meters and cutting gas lines in the downtown Sunday morning.

That individual has since been arrested by Regina Police and now faces 31 criminal charges. To this point, officials have not indicated a connection between the gas line incidents and the Gordon Block fire.

Silverado Demolition was handling the deconstruction of the Gordon Block this week under supervision of Regina Fire and Protective Services. The city is now reporting that control of the scene at 12th Avenue had been returned to the property owners this morning.
