NORTH BATTLEFORD — Warm temperatures, wind, and drying ground conditions have prompted North Battleford’s Director of Protective Services to issue an immediate fire ban within North Battleford city limits effective April 10.
Chief Lindsay Holm said, “The Fire Department monitors conditions through the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency’s Fire Weather Index, and this is the time of year that we typically issue a fire ban in response to the escalating potential for fire intensity. Our current rating for this area is considered high on the fire index, so we feel this is the best course of action to ensure safety of the community and properties within the city.”
Under the fire ban in North Battleford, any burns that take place outside of an approved fire pit are considered illegal. Use of external cooking devices, like barbecues and smokers, is allowed.
Any fires or burns not in an approved fire pit should be reported immediately to the North Battleford Fire Department by calling 911. Suspicious behaviour can also be reported to the RCMP at 306-446-1720 or Community Safety Officers at 306-445-1775. Information on fire permits can be found at this link.
