MEADOW LAKE - Miles Nachbaur is the NDP candidate for the Meadow Lake constituency, running in the upcoming provincial election.

This is his first time running for election.

"I've been involved in the local constituency association for quite a long time," Nachbaur said. "I thought the time was right for me and my family to be able to take that opportunity. I really saw a need for [new] leadership in our constituency. I felt this was a better way to address that. I wanted to put my name forward and run in the provincial election."

He said the current government is falling behind in many areas, including healthcare, education and affordability.

"I wanted to make sure I could help address those issues," Nachbaur said.

Nachbaur has a desire for more transparency and more "passionate" leadership in Saskatchewan.

"It's important I think that we bring forth our best effort," he said. "MLAs and politicians as a whole, they should be held to a higher standard. We need to just be able to meet our constituents where they are at, and have those honest conversations. You might not have the answer right away, but you work to figure out the best possible outcome for them. I think that's something that I can do."

Nachbaur was raised in Meadow Lake, and is married with three children. Career-wise, he previously served at North West College's Meadow Lake campus for about 15 years, focusing mainly on business development. He is currently the executive director for the Meadow Lake and Area Early Childhood Services, where he has been employed for the past year and a half.

He has extensive experience working with people in leadership roles, which will benefit him if he is elected as MLA.

In his free time, Nachbaur enjoys serving on a number of boards in the community. He has also volunteered coaching over the years, with baseball, football and hockey.

Nachbaur chairs about eight different boards, including the local Chamber of Commerce.

"I like to contribute to the community and the area that has given so much to me," he said. "Growing up, we had a lot of support from our community after my dad passed away. So, I would just like to make sure that I can help support the community that supported us."
