BATTLEFORD - A woman facing charges related to the death of Jeremy Ernest was sentenced to more time in prison at the Court of King's Bench in Battleford Friday.
Hanna Durocher, of Eagles Lake, was charged with second-degree murder in the case. She instead pleaded guilty to the lesser included charge of accessory after the fact to manslaughter.
Durocher was sentenced to 540 days in prison. Less enhanced remand credit of 533 days, she has seven days left to serve.
A publication ban is in effect on the details of the case until all the accused have gone through the court process.
Tyson Lasas, of Waterhen Lake First Nation, is facing a charge of second-degree murder. He is scheduled to appear in court again on Nov. 27 at 10 a.m. to be spoken to.
Trevor Alexander, 32, of Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and a separate charge of aggravated assault on July 31. For the manslaughter charge, he was sentenced on Sept. 9 to 10 years in custody. Minus time served, he has just under nine years left to serve. He also received three years in custody, to be served concurrently, for the charge of aggravated assault.
Tasha Opikokew, of Battleford, was previously sentenced to 365 days in custody, less credit for time served, after pleading guilty to accessory after the fact on May 12, 2023.
Meadow Lake RCMP previously reported that Ernest, 36, died on Waterhen Lake First Nation on Nov. 12, 2022. Police and paramedics had been called to a home at about 4:30 a.m. and found Ernest injured. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
