BATTLEFORDS - It is one year since the remains of 44-year-old Candie Pritchard were discovered outside a home on Red Pheasant First Nation. Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes investigators are appealing to the public for any information that could help solve her murder.
Pritchard was last seen in early January 2024, and her remains were found on Feb. 5, 2024.
“Investigators continue to urge anyone with information about her death to report it to police,” said Saskatchewan RCMP media relations in an email on Feb. 7. “They are also seeking more information about Candie’s whereabouts during the first week of January 2024 and would like to speak with anyone who saw or interacted with her.”
On the anniversary of Pritchard’s death, her family turned to social media to voice their ongoing grief and plea for answers. Her sister shared a heart-wrenching message urging anyone with information to speak out.
“Whoever is keeping this information a secret on the people that did this, please think of that,” said Candie’s sister. “Let’s bring these people to justice before they take away someone else’s loved one. If they could do it to my family, they could do it to yours. There are so many Missing and Murdered Indigenous women out there. If you know something, please say something, even small details can help.”
Recalling the devastating moment she learned of the remains found on Red Pheasant Cree Nation, Candie’s sister said that she never imagined it would be her sibling.
“One year ago today, posts were shared on Red Pheasant Cree Nation that a woman’s leg was found with a sock and shoe still on. It did not once cross my mind that this could be my sister's piece of her body cut off. Two days later, on Feb. 7, we were notified it was my sister.”
Candie Pritchard's sister went on to say that they consider themselves fortunate that pieces of her were found, and they don’t have to wonder where she is.
“But we shouldn’t have to say we are ‘fortunate.’ My sister should still be here today. Regardless of what she did, she was not theirs to take. They took away a mother of eight kids with two grandkids.”
Her sister said that the person, or people, responsible for Candie Pritchard’s death must be held accountable.
“Someone is going to bed next to these people that did this. Whoever they are, they get to go about their life like they just didn’t commit this disturbing crime. What they did to her, this can’t be their first time.”
“How many others are there?” she added. “How many others are still not found? This is all happening in Saskatchewan, right here at home.”
RCMP said that Pritchard was last seen at several residences on Red Pheasant Cree Nation around the first week of January 2024. They are seeking more information from the public about her whereabouts that first week of January.
Anyone can report information by dialing 310-RCMP. Information can also be submitted anonymously by contacting Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.saskcrimestoppers.com.
