On March 17 at approximately 2 a.m., a Battlefords RCMP officer was patrolling on Saulteaux First Nation and attempted a traffic stop.
SAULTEAUX FIRST NATION - A man is facing several charges including break and enter after being arrested on a warrant.
On March 17 at approximately 2 a.m., a Battlefords RCMP officer was patrolling on Saulteaux First Nation and attempted a traffic stop.
The vehicle did not stop and fled.
Officers observed it park at a home. The vehicle’s occupants ran inside.
Officers then approached the residence. Investigation determined a wanted male, as well as several other individuals, were inside. They initially refused police commands to exit the residence.
Eight individuals then exited the residence, as well as a dog, which began to fight with a police dog at the scene. An officer was injured breaking up the dogs and was treated at the hospital for injuries described as non-life-threatening in nature. The police dog was not seriously injured.
As a result of continued investigation, a 22-year-old man, from Cando, was arrested on a warrant for charges including unlawful confinement, break and enter, and assault related to a March 13 incident on Red Pheasant First Nation.
He is scheduled to appear in North Battleford Provincial Court on March 18.
The other occupants were released without charges. Battlefords RCMP continues to investigate.
