THE BATTLEFORDS — The Battlefords Humane Society hosted a "Tales of Hope Gala" Feb. 8.
More than 100 attended the fundraiser. A new building is among the focal points of this year's fundraising initiatives.
The gala took place the Dekker Center for the Performing Arts where animals were paraded down the red carpet to be introduced to the audience and auctioned off in hopes of finding their forever homes.
In addition to the live auctions, the event featured a silent auction. Prizes included everything from luxurious items to unique experiences. All proceeds from these auctions, along with other donations collected throughout the night, were directed toward the care for animals at the shelter.
The previous year’s Tales of Hope Gala raised $39,000.
Among the organization’s most urgent priorities is construction of a new building, which will significantly increase the space available for the animals. The new facility will more than double the existing shelter's size and has been in development for over a decade. The project is nearing completion and opening is scheduled for this coming summer.
David Gubbe, the board president, expressed his gratitude.
“The level of funding that was required to achieve this has been quite remarkable. We have not relied on any grants from senior levels of government; rather, our steadfast support comes entirely from the dedicated community of [the] Battlefords.”
The new building will feature ample kennels, a state-of-the-art ventilation system, improved working and walking spaces, as well as expansive outdoor areas for the animals to run. Each of these enhancements is designed with the welfare of the animals in mind, aiming to create a nurturing and comfortable environment for them.
Concluding the evening, Gubbe shared heartfelt appreciation.
“On behalf of the humane society, I would like to express how much I appreciate the support of our sponsors and donors. I would also like to thank the volunteers who are there every step of the way setting things up.”
