NORTH BATTLEFORD — Dana Johnson, director of golf at North Battleford Golf and Country Club, says their season was OK after the cold, windy and rainy May and June, offering a pleasant experience for the rest of summer at the course.
“We hosted the Battlefords Chamber of Commerce tournament, BUH Foundation annual Wayne Pruden Memorial tournament, Saskatchewan PGA tournament and a few other club tournaments that were a great success,” said Johnson.
The last day for golfing at NBGCC for the 2024 season is set for Oct. 20, providing the weather allows.
“The highlight was another very successful junior golf program with us teaching 360 kids with lessons and getting kids involved in the game of golf,” Johnson reports.
“The golf course has been in great shape this season, and we invite everyone to still come out by booking a tee time as we still have some great golfing days left before we close for the 2024 season.”
Jackfish Lodge Golf and Conference Centre also enjoyed the season.
“We had one of the busiest years at Jackfish Lodge as the weather didn’t slow us down in June and just got better in better for the months of July and August,” says Kyle Kellgren, general manager.
The premier golf course hosted a humane society golf tournament, RCMP tournament and multiple scrambles, which includes many First Nations partners in the area, reports Kellgren.
Depending on the weather, Kellgren hopes the course can remain open to Thanksgiving weekend.
“The golf course was the best it can be in 2024 condition wise in my 22 years at Jackfish Lodge
Our only challenge was not having enough tee times for everyone that wanted to golf especially on weekends,” adds Kellgren.
Elaine and Victor, owners of Rustic Nine Golf Course, say their website was brand new this year, rusticnine.ca, and customers can book a round of golf online, buy tickets to live music events in the Barn Loft or contact them to book an event.
Opening in August of 2008, the 2024 season was the 17th season offered at this golf venue and Elaine said it was the busiest one so far, especially after the cool, wet spring turned into a hot summer.
“We had nine holes-in-one this season, which so far, is at least three times the season average.”
After hosting weddings, corporate events, anniversaries, family reunions, staff functions and live music in the Barn Loft, Rustic Nine season will end Sept. 28.
“The concerts in the loft included many artists from across Canada, from Prince Edward Island to British Columbia and even one musician from Australia, with some local artists still to come in the next few weeks. The talent has been incredible.”
There is still time to hit the links in the Battlefords as summer winds down.
