SASKATCHEWAN - The Saskatchewan Marshals Service (SMS) is announcing the creation of its first regional headquarters in the North Battleford region.

“We welcome the recent announcement of the Marshals Service commencing operations in Saskatchewan and the confirmation that they will have a presence in the Battlefords. Establishing a headquarters in our region is a positive step toward addressing habitual crime, which accounts for a significant portion of service calls in our community, ” said Town of Battleford Mayor Ames Leslie.

This new regional headquarters will open in the fall of 2025 and will house an Inspector and ten Marshals.

Civilian staff will also support the operations.

“The Saskatchewan Marshals Service is very excited to announce our first regional headquarters in the province,” said Chief Marshal Robert Cameron. “We look forward to working in lockstep with all of our stakeholders and partners including the RCMP as we improve public safety and security for everyone in the Battlefords region.”

Throughout the process of identifying this regional headquarters, members of the SMS senior leadership and enforcement branch were in communication and consultation with city and town officials in the area and the local RCMP detachment. These conversations focused on inter-operability and how the SMS can support and enhance public safety in the community.

“The success of the SMS depends on strong partnerships between policing agencies to avoid duplication of services and instead create complementary strategies. The city is confident that both the SMS and RCMP leadership share this goal,” said City of North Battleford Mayor Kelli Hawtin.

Inspector Tim Garland has been named the Inspector in Charge of the Battlefords regional headquarters office. Inspector Garland brings 30 years of policing experience to the SMS from his career in the Ontario Provincial Police. During his time with the O.P.P., Insp. Garland was a First Nations Policing liaison, worked general patrol duties and was a detective in the Major Crimes Unit.

More information and education sessions will be provided for members of the public prior to the launch of the headquarters.
