Lawrence Brecht passed away peacefully at the age of 82 in the presence of family on June 25th 2010 at Kelowna General Hospital. Lawrence, the 2nd of 10 children born to Jacob and Cecilia Brecht, was born and raised near Viscount, Saskatchewan and married Lillian Hartley on August 7, 1948 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. They resided in Crutwell, Sask where Lawrence worked for the C.N.R. until they moved to BC in 1950, finally settling in Kelowna in 1962 where he worked as Facilities Coordinator for Okanagan College until his retirement in June of 1987. Larry was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved working with his hands, building furniture and wooden toys for his kids and grandkids that he was able to also proudly sell at the various craft fairs that he and Lillian loved to attend after his retirement. Camping and travelling were high on the list of things he liked to do, especially with his family. Lawrence was predeceased only 3 months ago by his loving wife/best friend Lillianwe know that they are together now as he takes his place at her side amongst the angels. Survived by devoted sons Tim (Louise) and Terry (Linda), loving grandchildren Demian (Heather), Dustin (Tara), Lara, Dyllan and Kayla (Robert), as well as great grand children Madison, Tyler and Lily, we know that he will always be remembered fondly by the countless family and other friends who were blessed to know him. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, July 3, 2010 at 10:00 am at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC. In lieu of flowers, we ask that a donation be made to The Village At Mill Creek, 1450 Sutherland Ave., Kelowna, BC V1Y 5Y5 on Lawrence's behalf.
