Lorne Edward Johnson passed away peacefully on Wednesday June 14, 2017 at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. Lorne was born on Sept 2, 1936 in Leroy Saskatchewan. Β He is predeceased by his wife Alice Johnson, his parents Anton and Alma Johnson, his brothers Wallace and Robert, his sisters Ilene Hart and Sylvia Cook and his son-in-law Keith McMurtry.Β Lorne is survived by his children Brenda (Craig) Webster and grandchildren Kirk, Troy, and Derek; Lynn McMurtry and grandchildren Brett and Dane; and Will (Debbie) Johnson and grandchildren Jenna, Amy and Elizabeth. Lorne is also survived by his brothers Myron (Doreen) Johnson, Dennis (Sharon) Johnson, his many nieces, nephews and cousins and his friend Linda. Lorne was a kind and gentle man with a great sense of humor. He was blessed with a large extended family and enjoyed every opportunity to socialize with family and friends. Lorne and Alice were the family historians having devoted several years of their retirement to write the Johnson-Pederson family history connecting with family across Canada, United States and Norway. Lorne graduated from University of Saskatchewan with a Mechanical Engineering Degree in 1959 and then worked at Northern Electric in Montreal. There he met Alice and they married in 1961. Later that year, they moved to Saskatoon and Lorne studied Education at the U of S so he could teach and pursue his passion for farming. Starting in 1962, Lorne taught science and computer programming at Balfour Technical School in Regina and was head of the Science Department for eight years. In 1973, the Saskatchewan Government passed the Community Colleges Act to develop and deliver continuing education programs. Lorne became the first Principal and CEO of the Carlton Trail Community College in Humboldt. Lorne retired from the College after 24 years. He continued farming until 2000 when both Lorne and Myron retired from farming. Lorne was active in his church and community. He enjoyed golfing, fishing trips, music, growing tomatoes and watching Saskatchewan Rough Rider and Humboldt Bronco games. Lorne is lovingly remembered by his family and friends. Funeral Services will be held June 28, 2017 at 2:30 pm at the Westminster United Church in Humboldt. A private family interment will follow in the Leroy Public Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to either Westminster United Church or the Humboldt District Hospital Foundation. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home, Humboldt.
