DUERR: Marie Theresa

September 15, 1923 - October 1, 2014

Mrs. Marie Theresa (nee Rabner) Duerr of Bethany Pioneer Village, Middle Lake, SK, (and formerly of Fulda and Humboldt), passed away at Humboldt District Hospital, Humboldt, SK, on Wednesday, October 1, 2014. She was 91 years of age. Marie was born on September 15, 1923, to Frank and Theresa (nee Grieman) Rabner at home on their farm in the Fulda district. She grew up there and attended Canvassback School. After completing Grade 8, Marie helped on the family farm and also did sewing for people in the surrounding area. On October 29, 1945, Marie married the love of her life, Joseph "Joe" Duerr in St. Joseph's R.C. Church at Old Fulda. In 1947, they were blessed with the birth of their first child, Brenda, with further blessings to follow over the next few years with the births of Roger, Beryl and Kim. The Duerrs moved to Humboldt in 1973. Over the years, Marie spent innumerable pleasant hours sewing, baking, cooking and crocheting. After moving into Humboldt she also enjoyed bowling, golfing, going on casino trips, and traveling with Joe to various locations in the United States. They even went on a cruise to the Bahamas, which they loved. Of great importance to Marie was getting the family together for visits throughout the year and, particularly, on special holidays. Due to failing health, in September 2012, Marie moved to Birch Manor at Bethany Pioneer Village. Joe also became a resident at Bethany in January 2013, and passed away that following August. Although Marie led a simple life, it was very meaningful. Marie will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her four children, nine grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren: Brenda Hedgeland of Cochrane, AB, and family, Ian (Jade) Hedgeland [children Nigel and Thomas]; Roger (Lois) Duerr of Humboldt and family, Rhonda (David) Mortensen [children Brody and Maya], Jeff Duerr, and Tanya Duerr (Chris) [children Braden, Josh and Nathan]; Beryl (Norm) Rowell of Edmonton, AB, and family, Stephanie (Adam) Zawaduik [children Alek and Nikolai], and Michael Rowell; and Kim (Brenda) Duerr of Humboldt and family, Derek Duerr, Jessica Duerr (Corey), and Chelsea Duerr (Richard); two brothers and one sister: Wilfred (Helen) Rabner, Gilbert (Rose) Rabner, and Betty Kirsch; brother-in-law, Edward Ehalt; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Duerr (August 20, 2013); son-in-law, Ralph Hedgeland; parents, Frank and Theresa (nee Grieman) Rabner; two sisters: Helen (Lambert) Duerr and Dolores Ehalt; and by brother-in-law, Lawrence Kirsch. The Prayer Service for Marie was held at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, on Sunday, October 5, 2014, at 7:30 p.m., led by Janice Dobmeier. Music ministry was provided by organist Marie Aubin. Scripture readers were Rhonda Mortensen and Chelsea Duerr, and the eulogy was delivered by Brenda Hedgeland and Beryl Rowell. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine R.C. Church on Monday, October 6, 2014, at 2:00 p.m., concelebrated by Fr. Ephraim Mensah and Fr. Daniel Muyres, OSB. Others taking part were: Rhonda Mortensen, crossbearer; Brenda Duerr and Lois Duerr, scripture readers; Brenda Duerr, intentions; Lois Duerr, Brody and Maya Mortensen, Braden and Josh Koehler, giftbearers; Joan Possberg and Joan Hergott, memorial table attendants. Music ministry was provided by director Loretta Schugmann, organist Dolores Hinz, soloist Norman Duerr, and the St. Augustine Parish Funeral Choir. Active pallbearers were Ian Hedgeland, Jeff Duerr, Tanya Duerr, Michael Rowell, Derek Duerr, and Jessica Duerr. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in Marie's life". Interment followed at St. Augustine R.C. Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to Bethany Pioneer Village, the Humboldt District Hospital General Equipment Fund or the St. Augustine Parish Building Fund. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
