City of Melfort approves a 3.89% increase to municipal tax levy

Melfort Council approves 2025 budget with investments into the city's infrastructure and essential services.

There is $544,497 earmarked for a new fire truck in the 2025 budget.

MELFORT – Melfort city council approved the 2025 budget on Dec. 9. 

Residents can expect a mill rate increase of 3.89 per cent and a base tax rise of $19. This translates to $4.89 more per month on a $100,000 residential assessment. 

The 2025 capital budget totalled $6,982,497.00 and will be put towards the following projects:

Corporate Services: $544,497 is earmarked for a new fire truck. 

Community Services: $500,000 for the historic post office's roof replacement and $100,000 for the schematic design of the NLP project. 

Public Works: $2.5 million will be used to construct a new engineered landfill cell, decommission the old landfill, and purchase a landfill compactor. $2.2 million will be used for a road and sidewalk rehabilitation which included McKendry Avenue and Albert Street.  

Mayor Glenn George declared, "The 2025 budget embodies our unwavering dedication to elevating the infrastructure and services our community relies on. These vital investments are the foundation for Melfort's enduring growth and vitality."
