Glenn George acclaimed mayor for City of Melfort

Glenn George is acclaimed as mayor with an election to decide who will be elected as councillors.

An election will be held for those who are running for six council positions.

MELFORT – Glenn George will be the City of Melfort's mayor. George won by acclamation as no other candidates submitted a nomination.

Glen George served as mayor for the last four years and prior to that had served as councillor for three terms. Four of six councillors including Tar Muntain, Trent Mitchell, Doug Terry and Brian Enge.

The Melfort Trade Alliance Chamber of Commerce is still considering planning a candidates debate with details of date, time and location to announced.  

Voting will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 13, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Kerry Vickar Centre.

Advance Poll options are listed below: 

  • Wednesday, Oct. 30, 4-8 p.m. at the Kerry Vickar Centre - Affinity Room, 206 Bemister Avenue East.
  • Saturday, Nov. 2, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Kerry Vickar Centre - Affinity Room, 206 Bemister Avenue East.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 6, 9 to 11:30 a.m., Diefenbaker Place, 201-205 Park Ave.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 6, 1:30 to 3 p.m., Caskey Place, 415-419 Burns Ave E.

When you go to the polling station you will be asked to show identification, and to complete a Voter’s Registration Form before a ballot will be given to you.  Photo ID is your best option.  Acceptable photo identification is ID that is government-issued, valid, and shows your photo, name, and address, such as: 

  1. a valid SK Driver’s licence; 
  2. A valid SK ID card issued by SGI or any other motor licence issuer; 
  3. Any other valid government issued photo ID issued by a Canadian government whether federal, provincial, or municipal, or an agency of that government, so long as it includes your name and address. 

All eligible voters have the option to apply for a mail-in ballot.  Applications for mail-in ballots are open until 4 p.m. on Oct. 23.  Voters can apply for a mail-in ballot from home, or in-person at city hall during regular business hours - Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. - 4 pm.

“Your ballot kit will contain a ballot and instructions on how to complete and return the ballot package. It is very important that you carefully follow the instructions for completing and returning the ballot,” said the City of Melfort. In order to be counted, mail-in ballots must be received by the Returning Officer by 8 p.m. on Election Day, Nov.13.
