Hawkins is Tisdale's volunteer of the year at annual appreciation night

Individuals and teams were recognized for various sport achievements including dance, wakeboarding, softball, football and sprinting at the annual Tisdale appreciation evening.

TISDALE – Sharon Hawkins was presented with the Tisdale volunteer of the year award.  

There were many volunteers in the community of Tisdale who were presented awards on Nov. 21 at the Tisdale RecPlex auditorium. 

Marilyn Baker and previous councillor for the Town of Tisdale was the MC for the night. Carol Hayward presented the volunteer of the year honour to Sharon Hawkins.  

Hayward said, “Sharon was one the re-founding members when Tisdale Arts Council was re-established in 2001. Sharon dedicated her time and expertise from 2001 to 2024. Sharon began as secretary-treasurer in 2001 and continued in this capacity until the position was split. Sharon continued as secretary until 2021 when she took on the position of president from 2021 until 2023, continuing as past president for 2023-2024, retiring July 31, 2024.” 

Hayward went on to say, “Sharon accepted the responsibility of her positions and carried them out with consistent excellence, always doing more than expected.  

Twenty-three years were spent mentoring committee members, stimulating and encouraging the development, growth and appreciation of performing arts. Hawkins has shown outstanding leadership in promoting and providing performing arts to the residents of Tisdale and area. While attending to the arts, Hawkins was secretary to the Valparaiso Wheat pool committee for more than 20 years. She co-ordinates the Valparaiso cemetery and, with her family, attends to its care. As a retired teacher she tutors students, at no charge. 

Provincial award recipients were as follows:   

Erin Kirkland - Canadian National Women’s Softball Championship. 

Abby Mooney, Allyssa Svenson and Olivia Pollon - Saskatchewan Softball U19 B Womens Provincial Championship. 

Harper Thiessen - U9 female Wakeboard Provincial Championship. 

Jayda York - Comet Girls 60M Sprint Provincial Champion 

Landon Thibault, Jackson Howes, and Kylar Black - 2023 CJFL Football Prairie Conference & Canadian National Champions for the Saskatoon Hilltops.   

Jackson Howes, Kylar Black and Riley Wood - Team Saskatchewan - 2023 Challenge Cup Football Provincial Champions.   

Jackson Howes and Tyson Schwanke - Team North in the 2023 Senior Bowl.  

Saskatchewan Baseball 11U Tier 2C Provincial Championships - The team included Brody Bailey, Bryce Boxall, Riley Boxall, Blake Dagg, Bentley Hemsley, Quinn Lajambe, Jaxon Lalkowski, Declan McShannock, Beau Oliphant, Nathanial Waldner, Daxton Weber and Sawyer Peterson and coached by Chad Bailey, Dylan Weber, Nathan Slobodian and Colin Peterson.  

Brae Lynn Lai, Mikaela Sherlock, Delaney Walter, Lara Mutimer, Isabelle Deforest, and Jenna Brown - Canadian Dance Teachers Association National Achievement Award in Jazz.

To end the evening Lesley Thibault, Director of Recreation and Parks, said, “If you can think of a deserving individual who is a coach, instructor or volunteer in sport, recreation, art, culture and human service and would like to nominate them in the future, please be sure to submit that to us for our next appreciation night.”
