HUMBOLDT — The Humboldt and District Museum and Gallery, together with the Friends of the Museum and Gallery, is hosting a new program for local painters.

The “Come Paint With Us” is a program at the gallery that combines freestyle painting with introductory sessions for some fundamental painting techniques. This program will take place on four consecutive Thursday nights.

Each session will begin with a 30-minute workshop or presentation to help teach new skills:

  • Sept. 21: Canvas Prep and Intro to Brushes with Laura Kneeshaw
  • Sept. 28: Introduction Composition with Lorraine Jansen
  • Oct. 5: Simple Silhouettes with Wayne Schidlowsky
  • Oct. 12: Colour Theory with Kayla Hanson

After the initial 30-minute session, participants will work on their chosen project, with the help of local talented artist-facilitators who will offer guidance and advice. Painters Lorraine Jansen, Laura Kneeshaw, Kayla Hanson, Wayne Schidlowsky and Zyg Kondzielewski will act as mentors to the participants, and help them hone their techniques and achieve their painting goals.

“This program can be for seasoned painters looking for a spark of inspiration, to beginners trying to find the perfect gateway into the medium, the Come Paint With Us, series is designed for painters of all backgrounds and skill levels,” museum supervisor Rachel Wormsbecher said. “Feel free to bring either a project that you have already begun or a totally blank canvas.”

Wormsbecher said If you are unsure where to start, bring a copy of a favorite photograph to recreate. The Gallery will provide paint and brushes. Each session runs from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
