Nipawin awards tender for landfill decommissioning project

The quote from Sablatus Environmental includes a 10 per cent contingency $323,815 built in for unforeseen circumstances

NIPAWIN – Nipawin council approved Sablatus Enviornmental to decommission landfill at the July 22 special meeting.

Jamie Fast General Manager of Operations and Engineering Services reported the seven quotes received to complete the project, Sablatus Environmental was the lowest quote of just over $3.5 million.

Fast said the purpose of the decommissioning project is to apply a final cover system to the landfilled areas to help decrease leachate generation at the site. This lessens the potential impact on the surrounding environment.

The quote from Sablatus Environmental includes a 10 per cent contingency $323,815 built in for unforeseen circumstances that may arise during the course of the project.

This contingency could be a potential cost savings should nothing unforeseen arise. Administration recommended that council approve awarding the tender to Sablatus Environmental.

With the approval of Council, Nipawin administration will now advise Pinter and Associates Ltd to execute the contract with Sablatus Environmental to complete the Landfill Decommissioning Project. The proposed start date will be Aug. 3.
