NIPAWIN – The Town of Nipawin is requesting the community to provide input on the official community plan they are developing.

A Town of Nipawin’s press release said, “Quality of life is exceptional in Nipawin. It is not immune to challenges many communities face as economic, social and environmental conditions change. As Nipawin continues to change and grow, it is important to have a plan that delivers more of what is good about Nipawin.”

The Town of Nipawin is preparing an official community plan to define a long-term vision for their community and is asking people for their input. Members of the public are invited to visit the ‘Conversation Café’ at the Community Connections Night on Sept. 12 at the Evergreen Centre beginning at 5 p.m. Michelle Soreson, Nipawin CAO said. "The types of questions will be regarding development and future vision for the Town, this could include creating a connection linkage between downtown and Central park that better connects the two spaces. There will be questions on housing styles and types of housing development, transportation such as a new downtown streetscape layout that considers a small centre boulevard and turning lanes."

Community members will be able to talk to administration and council and its project team members, including consultants from Wallace Insights. A project web page has been prepared. It provides videos to explain the project, an online survey, and monthly project updates.

An official community plan (OCP) is a statement of Nipawin’s long-term vision for growth and development. "It reflects community values and establishes a framework for investment,” said Michelle Sorenson, CAO for the Town of Nipawin. The OCP bylaw is adopted by council and is approved by the province of Saskatchewan.

The Town of Nipawin wants residents, businesses and visitors to have a say in how the town develops to ensure it reflects what the community wants and needs.Click here to complete the survey that the Town fof Nipawin will use in developing their OCP.

“Our shared sense of identity and community pride grows when residents plan the future together,” stated the town's the press release. "Several opportunities for public input are available throughout September. We encourage people to take the survey to share their opinions about Nipawin and what will be important in the future."

An interactive project display will visit several places and events where people already gather in the Town of Nipawin.
