Baljennie News: Volunteers work to spruce up St. Bridget’s cemetery

Parade and fair activities enjoyed.

Fireworks closed out the Territorial Days fair in North Battleford.

BALJENNIE — Some faithful volunteers showed up at the Baljennie St. Bridget’s cemetery. They got all the grass mowed and trimmed up around the gravesites. There are a few graves that need some family labour to get them cleaned up a bit better. Our volunteers like to keep things neat and tidy. They got a few tree branches cut back, but some need to be cut out and burned. A big thank you to all the volunteers who did turn up.

School starts Sept. 1. The holiday season is over. As the years go by the Baljennie School bus has fewer students to transport.

All the best goes out to Ed Mohr of Battleford West Place, as he has moved to a senior home in North Battleford. He has been having some health problems. Good luck, Ed, in your new home.

The North Battleford parade was held on the Streets Aug. 16. Many blocks of people lined up to watch. There were many different floats and a lot had candy and goodies for the children that they passed out, as it gets to be too dangerous to throw them to the children for fear some little one gets run over getting candy off the street.

West Coast Amusements provided three days of activities at the Ag. Society grounds. In spite of the heat all went well. It all ended Friday night with the fireworks. We could see them through the trees in our apartment in Battleford.

The CPCA races ended the season Aug. 21 at Lloydminster exhibition grounds. Todd Baptiste of the Red Pheasant First Nation came in first to be the winner of all the prizes.

Jean Laycock of Battleford West Place asked me to add this to my report.

A huge thank you to all the people who stopped to help me at 100th Street and 13th Avenue before the start of the North Battleford parade when my van suddenly died. With so much traffic at 5:45 p.m. they helped make an extremely scary, dangerous situation safe with many people pushing my van through the intersection and west on 13th Avenue. There are still many caring, wonderful people in the Battlefords. Thank you.
