Ball players scoring big at provincials

Maidstone and District News: Pathfinders-Rangers embark on a trip to Eastern Canada.

MAIDSTONE — Rivers West District Mobile Playground at Maidstone Museum was an exciting place to be July 6. With 25 children attending, the fairy tale theme provided a variety of games and crafts including making book covers, magic wands and dragon masks. Thank you to all the volunteers and to Lakeland Library, Maidstone branch for hosting the event.

On the softball scene, Maidstone’s Rachel Currie, Jade McIntosh and Maja McIntosh play with Edam Blue Sox who took home gold in the U17 BW girls’ provincials in Regina this past weekend. The team of girls from Edam, Turtleford and Maidstone will play in the westerns Aug. 4 to 7 in St. Albert, Alta.

Maidstone’s U15 Lakers girls’ team went to provincials in Saskatoon where they came second in round robin play and fourth overall out of 24 teams. Both the U11 and U13 Lakers boys’ teams won their tournaments in Swift Current. Good luck to the U11s at provincials in Unity this weekend. Congratulations to all the players who battled hard in the heat. Maidstone will host Tier 1 U13 provincials July 22 to 24 with games at Silver Lake and in town.

Maidstone Pathfinders-Rangers are excited to embark on their long-awaited trip July 14 to 28. What started three years ago as an international trip to Switzerland and Italy was postponed due to COVID, changed to England and France, and eventually had to become a national excursion due to strict GGC rules. The five girls and two leaders are heading east to Toronto, Niagara Falls, Montreal and then three Maritime provinces. They’ll take in a Blue Jays game, several tours, hiking, glamping and camping. We’ll look forward to a report when they return. If anyone wants Girl Guide classic cookies, the unit still have lots to sell. Units are filling up fast for the fall.
