Crownhill 4-H speak-offs

The Crownhill 4-H Club held its annual speak-off event March 4 in Blaine Lake. Judges for this year were Elaine Bella, Jeff Joanette, Connie Jessop and Larissa Matechuk.

The Crownhill 4-H Club held its annual speak-off event March 4 in Blaine Lake. Judges for this year were Elaine Bella, Jeff Joanette, Connie Jessop and Larissa Matechuk.

Participants can talk about a topic of their choice within the time limit allotted for each level. Speakers are judged on their presentation, enunciation, knowledge of topic, use of props, inflection and time.

The top three placements in the cloverbud category were Courtney Yasieniuk, first; Cheyanne Roth, second; and Michelle Beam, third. Junior top three placings include Abigaile Roth, first; Justin Yasieniuk, second; and Kolten Yasieniuk, third. The Intermediate category saw Austin Ouellette place first, Anna Verbonac place second and Erick Zerebeski place third. Kira Casavant captured first place in the senior category, while Clay Casavant received second and Ben Verbonac placed third.

First and second place winners advance to compete in Dalmeny March 11.

The Crownhill 4-H club has seen an increase in its membership over last year's 15. In the club are six cloverbuds, eight juniors, five intermediates and three seniors. The club's achievement day will be held June 24.
