Fresh snow for ag association's snowmobile rally

With water dripping off the eaves we would have to say March has come in like a lamb, and you know the rest of the story! The Rabbit Lake and District Agricultural Association held its annual snowmobile rally March 3.

With water dripping off the eaves we would have to say March has come in like a lamb, and you know the rest of the story!

The Rabbit Lake and District Agricultural Association held its annual snowmobile rally March 3. The weather co-operated in giving us a good snowfall the day before and a beautiful day for the event. About 154 riders made a day of it. Scott Moe, MLA for Shellbrook -Rosthern was on hand to do the major prize draws. Ben Paulson of Spiritwood went home $7,500 richer, C. Salisbury of Mullingar profited $3,500 and Bruce McNabb of Sandwith won $1,500. The checkpoint prizes of $300 and $500 went to Rob McDougall and Joe Ratt. Dave Rohd and Shirley Price won $300 in the ticket sellers draw and Amanda Moore won $200. Dave Mischuk of Mayfair won $617 in the 50/50 draw. There were tons of door prizes donated by businesses and individuals. A huge thanks goes out to those who donated in any way. A chilli supper and then a dance with music by Trevor Pauls ended the day.

It would seem that I dropped the ball on a news item from Dec. 19. It is always exciting to announce a birth. Riley Blaire Evans was born to Meghan and Trevor Evans in North Battleford. Riley weighed nine pounds and eight ounces and was 22 inches long. Riley is a granddaughter to Velda and Russ Sandbeck and a great-granddaughter to George and Mary Clarkson. Congratulations.

Get well wishes go out to John Horn and Margaret Boechler , residents of Rose Gill Lodge, who are under the weather. We hope to see you both home very soon.

Our community sends its condolences to the Scott family on the passing of Almar "Bud" Scott Feb 27. Funeral services were held in Rabbit Lake Feb. 29. Bud was the husband to Dianne of Glaslyn and father to Barb Sorenson of Mayfair and Robert Scott of Edmonton as well as the father of Stanley Scott.

Bud came to the Rothermere District, north of Meeting Lake in the early 1930s and lived in Rabbit Lake in the 1960s. He also lived in Sandwith, Robinhood and Glaslyn.

Also we are saddened to hear of the passing of Evelyn "Eva" Kobernick, formerly of Rabbit Lake for many, many years and more recently of Devon, Alta. Eva passed Feb. 27 at the age of 93, only about nine weeks after her husband Paul. Eva was well-known in the community for many things but probably mostly for the elaborate wedding cakes she took pride in creating. Eva was the mother of Elsie Drews (deceased), Judy Ricketts, Sharran Koebernick, Kevin Koebernick and Deanna Solvieg.

Annually the Rabbit Lake Hall Board sponsors the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper. This year about 60 people gathered for pancakes and sausage and some socializing. Although the crowd was small the hall recognized a small profit to help with expenses.

The Rabbit Lake Lutheran Church Society will be holding its annual deep-fried turkey supper, March 17, which will be followed by a Kaiser tournament in the Rabbit Lake Hall.

Rabbit Lake Senior Sunrise Circle will be holding their monthly potluck supper March 21. Also please note that Don and Naomi Unger are selling annual memberships to the seniors for only $10. This money is used to keep the centre in good repair and to pay expenses.

The Rabbit Lake library is hosting several events in March. The quilters will be holding an open house to display their winter projects March 12. There will be a follow-up photography day with Jay Kimball of Mervin March 17. The Book Club will be meeting author Vicki Delany March 27 and of course the Kids Art Club goes on March 7, 21 and 28. Sometime in April the library will be offering a program, How to Write an Interesting History, with Rosalie Jarvis of the Saskatchewan Genealogy Society. So there is lots to do in the village before spring work begins.
