HUMBOLDT — The Humboldt Good Neighbour Store has donated $100,000 to the Humboldt District Hospital Foundation, which will be used to purchase new equipment for the local facility.
Lorrie Bunko, the foundation’s executive director said that these funds will go towards purchasing items specifically from their capital equipment list.
Each capital piece of equipment costs a minimum of $5,000 and goes up to $50,000.
“There are numerous pieces on there, some of which involve offering a new service from our hospital,” Bunko said.
“The Good Neighbour Store’s donation will make a huge impact as to what we can do for next year.”
Bunko said this year the community has been generous with donations, which is a good thing as back in March she said they weren’t sure the foundation would be able to keep meeting the demands for the hospital.
“With the Good Neighbour Store here, we really rely on those funds annually from them,” she said.
“This year’s donation means so much more amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The store typically makes a large annual donation to community organziations in Humboldt and area. In the past, their donations have ranged from $250,000 to $300,000 or over.
Maureen Doetzel, chair at the Good Neighbour Store, said this year’s donation was a bit lower due to the store closing their doors for three months due to the pandemic as well as a decrease in hours.
Currently, the store is open for customers from Wednesday through Saturday at 1 to 5 p.m.
“People always come first at the Good Neighbour Store, and the hospital is very special to all of us on the board,” Doetzel said. “Sometime in your life everybody is going to need the hospital, if not for yourself, someone in your family.”
An announcement on what specific purchases the Humboldt District Hospital Foundation will use the funds for is expected to be made in the coming weeks.
