The temperature Monday morning was -27 C. That is quite a change from last week. Forecaster say the cold weather will be with us for a few more days. Along with the frigid temperatures is a strong, cold wind making it feel much colder. Some snow fell in the night Jan. 14 and has blown into drifts by that wind.
Although the Bohemian waxwings have made some visits to finish off the berries on the mountain ash tree, other birds, such as the grosbeaks, finches and redpolls have not been seen. Flocks of these birds were regular visitors last winter and enjoyed so much.
Our best wishes to Bill Lamont, a former area resident, who celebrates his 90th birthday Jan. 24. Bill is presently a resident at Piccadilly Care Centre in Salmon Arm, B.C.
Bill is, among other things, remembered here for his interest in livestock. He and his wife, Eileen, developed the Speckle Park breed of cattle, a breed that has become popular in many parts of the world.
We wish Bill a happy birthday and all the best in the coming year.
