Are you attending your community's Remembrance Day services? Unity's service will be held at St. Peter's Church starting at 10:30 a.m. The remaining local veterans, as well as the Legion members, go to great lengths to put on this annual service. We can show our appreciation for their brave sacrifices by attending this service. The schools hosted their Remembrance Day services earlier this week and are thankful to the local veterans and Legion members who came to help them out.
The junior volleyball teams have finished their playoffs. Both boys and girls played in the district championships Nov. 3. The junior boys fought hard in their long day of play. In the end they lost to Medstead in the bronze match to earn fourth spot. Mrs. Orobko and Jenn Vany, their coaches for the year, were proud of the boys' accomplishments as they made great strides in their season.
The junior girls also had a long day at their playoffs and won their way to semifinals but could not pull out a win over the NBCHS Vikings. They captured bronze in the district, which they were proud of. Mrs. Gartner will be sad to see some of these girls leave the ranks of junior and move on to senior volleyball next year.
Warrior senior girls' volleyball played their first round of conference playoffs last weekend in Rosetown, earning a top two finish and the right to return to Rosetown for regional play downs Nov. 12. The senior boys earned a bye to regionals and will head to La Loche.
The big Sifto Cash Spiel is on this weekend at the curling rink. Come down and see live curling action from some top local and provincial teams, especially since we have one of the nicest lounges with flat screen TVs that can make those far end calls undisputable. Come on down and watch some local curling action, or join your favourite curling team for a refreshment while you watch curling on the big screen TV in the lounge.
You absolutely do not want to miss the first ever Battle of the Blades, Unity version, coming to our arena Nov. 25. Pairs have been working out regularly since Oct. 16, preparing for the competition. There will be a three-judge panel as well as you having the opportunity to vote for your favourite team during the evening, for $1 a vote. There are no advance tickets and the price is a bargain deal at only $5. Each program consists of a 90-second free skate which includes a spin, a jump and the chances are good that you will see some lifts.
The gentlemen graciously lending their skating finesse to the event are fierce competitors and you can already see each team seeking its competitive edge. Todd Chorney, Larrie Thalheimer, Dan Feser, Ken Parker, Scott Smith, Chad McGlaughin, Byron Bertoia, Chase Green, and Alix Van de Meutter are the gentleman participants. Local figure skaters Katy Robertson, Jenna Winterhalt, Robin Belliveau, Rayel Green, Kyla Van de Meutter, Brandie Braun, Courtney Boser, Megan Bloder are the females paired up with their counterparts in the attempt to win the first title in this competition.
Are you taking part in Movember? During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men's faces, in Canada and around the world. With their mo's, these men raise vital funds and awareness for men's health, specifically prostate cancer. Voter turnout kept those folks at the polls busy all day Nov. 7. The students had a wonderful opportunity to take part in this year's provincial election by participating in studentvote.ca whereby they reviewed the platforms and made their own informed decision in an official mock vote prior to the election.
Patrons of this past weekend's dinner theatre production of "Acting Funny" were not disappointed. The Little Theatre group has a great reputation for entertainment and lots of laughs and they gave the audience all of that following the delicious meal.

Former premier Lorne Calvert returns to Unity United Church Nov. 13 as guest preacher. Whether you liked him or not when he was in office, you are sure to enjoy him as he presents the service that day. His reflections are most relatable, as well as humour filled, and he might even treat us with his talent for music. He has been a big hit with both young and old attending his services. If something different is what you are looking for, this service will certainly offer that and more.
Mark your calendars for Nov. 26 as the annual Ladies Night Out will take place upstairs in the community centre. There are 22 vendors this year and the event will run from 6-10 p.m. There is a $4 admission fee, of which a portion will be donated to the Cam Cooper's children's trust fund.
Coffee row folk have been discussing provincial election thoughts. They can also be heard analyzing all the miscues in this year's Rider season.
