Children came the North Battleford Library Thursday to enjoy a "pirates at sea" afternoon.
The library staff organized many pirate related activities for the kids to participate in.
Librarian Linda Peterson, asked the kids some riddles like, "What is a pirate's favourite letter?" The answer was "R."
After the kids had a good laugh, Peterson read Small Saul by Ashley Spires. The book is about a boy named Saul who is exceecingly short. He didn't seem to fit in anywhere, but decided he didn't have to be tall to be a pirate. He went to pirate school where he had pirate adventures.
Marcie Engel, the assistant, read How I Became a Pirate by Melinda Long. This story is about a boy who tells about his pirate adventures and how he realizes he is not ready to be a pirate.
When they finished reading both those stories they moved to a group activity. Peterson divided them into six groups; Pirates, Blue Beard, Ships, Port Royal, Spanish Scallion and Sail. Each group had a line and as she read the story every time she said one of the group's names they had to say their line.
Afterwards they gave the kids a paper with clues and they had to find pieces of a map. In the end the pieces were assembled revealing the route to treasure.
Just before the kids left they did some crafts and made a parrot to take home with them.
