The 11 teens accused in the Lanigan hazing incident had their first day in Humboldt provincial court on Oct. 21, with the proceedings adjourned until Nov. 4.
Nine youths and two 18-year-olds (Brayden Braun and Kyle Ekstrom) were charged with various crimes following a so-called freshie party in September at which the accused allegedly paddled Grade 9 and 10 students with a modified hockey goalie stick. The victims suffered injuries that included severe bruising and, in one case, some muscle damage. The names of the youths cannot be published under the terms of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
A total of 34 charges were laid at the time, including assault, assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm.
