Sherry Anderson’s victory in Tisdale was very much a repeat of her victory in Melfort.
At both the Affinity Senior Curling Provincials in Tisdale and the Viterra Scotties Women’s Provincials in Melfort, Anderson’s team came from behind, winning tiebreaker after tiebreaker to get to the championship round.
The team, which features Anderson as skip, lead Anita Silvernagle, second Brenda Goertzen and third Patricia Hersikorn, defeated Team Syrota 6-3 Feb. 25.
Anderson said she was exhausted after three rounds of curling that day.
“The ice was challenging, so it’s mentally exhausting as well as physically exhausting.”
The skip said she was excited to win both the senior women’s title and the women’s title. Her team will also be going to senior worlds later this year.
“You get to go travel and go to another place. Hopefully it will be good preparation for us going onto the worlds from last year.”
The final game against Team Syrota was a close affair, with neither team scoring in the first end, Team Syrota scoring in the second and then both teams alternating with a point each until the seventh end. Anderson said the game was boring at the start.
“It was a boring game to play and I’m sure it was boring to watch because the ice just wasn’t conducive to get around guards,” she said. “We played it very defensively because of that, so it was boring until the last couple of ends.”
In the seventh end, Team Anderson managed to get a deuce from a rock-filled field. They scored two more points in the eighth end.
Anderson said she feels no pressure as her team prepares to defend the national title in Stratford, Ont. March 24 to 29.
“It’s another year and it’s a different year. You just go in,” she said. “With the format the way it is, you’ve got to be sharp right off the beat because it’s too close.”
Anderson said she enjoyed her time in Melfort in January and in Tisdale, which went from Feb. 21 to 25.
“The organization was great. The event was really nice, well-run and they had entertainment up in the bar the last couple of nights,” she said. “It was really good.”
