TISDALE — Approximately $2,400 has been raised from a fundraising night for a family who lost all their possessions in a Tisdale fire.
A structure fire claimed the home of Tyson Erickson, Jodi Derenowski and their two children at Wick’s Mobile Home Park on March 1.
After their home was destroyed, the family stayed in a hotel before renting another place from the same landlord.
Erickson said they have been settling into their new home well.
“The community came together really well and it just happened so fast. I thought it would be a couple months here before I could get back on my feet,” he said.
“I live in a great community where everyone came together and helped us out.”
Erickson said their children are still talking about the fire, but are enjoying their rooms.
“[They’re] liking the colour of the bedrooms, I guess because it’s purple,” he said. “It was actually purple when we moved in so that’s pretty cool…It seems like they’re liking the place so far.”
Prior to the fundraising event, the family had their new home fully furnished.
“A day or two after they got their new trailer it was almost completely furnished, almost everything they needed from all businesses in the community really stepping up for that,” said Nadine Wickens, one of the fundraising organizers.
Robert Vickery, one of the other organizers, said the event on March 15 at Zarah’s Bar and Hotel served to get the family their remaining day to day items.
“Anything they have not already received through donations, this fundraiser is to help them afford purchase their needs — other blankets, bedding, clothing and so forth,” Vickery said.
