It's official: 2011 has beaten 2010 for building permit values in the city of North Battleford.

Overall, for the year so far through July, 78 permits have been issued for $50,590,600, compared to 92 issued for $33,888,500 in 2010.

That is according to the monthly building report numbers submitted by building inspector Jerry Wintonyk at the Aug. 22 city council meeting.

While the number of permits is down for the year so far, the $50 million value figure has already beaten the $47,950,300 figure for all of 2010. That number was achieved with 154 building permits issued.

As far as 2011 is concerned, city officials have the large-scale Credit Union CUPlex project to thank for the permit value increase.

Three new institutional permits have been issued for 2011 for a total value of $39,014,000. All of those permits are for the Credit Union CUPlex.

As for July's numbers the building permit report was full of positive numbers for the city of North Battleford.

A total of 15 permits for $12,266,500 were issued in July compared to 9 for $3,477,000 the previous year. Much of the total permit value was made up by one new industrial permit for $8,014,000 for the Credit Union CUPlex, but permit values would have been up for the month even if the CUPlex was not included.

Three commercial alteration permits issued for $3,632,000, compared to none the previous year. There was also an increase in the category of new dwellings: two permits issued for $520,000 compared to one for $306,000.

Three garage/carport permits for $34,000, three residential alterations for $26,000, one institutional alteration for $35,000 and two removal/demolitions for $5,500 round out the numbers for July.
