Calico gave donors a sneak peak of their new building.

On Jul. 26 Humboldt donors were invited to preview the 10,000 square feet, unfinished Calico building at their new location on 4th Ave. to get an update on the buildings progress.

Calico Board President, Carolyn Janidlo-MacLean, says it was an exciting opportunity for donors to see where their money is going.

“Just a huge thank you to all of our sponsors, big and small. Even if it’s a barbecue that they sponsored for us, we just appreciate our community support to have this dream come true,” says Janidlo-MacLean.

Three Calico gymnasts also got to say worlds of thanks and tell everyone about the building.

Katie MacLean, Heather Graf, and Eden Rogers say they are most excited for the six foot deep pit that will be filled with foam cubes.

The pit will allow gymnasts to try new techniques with added safety.

Calico head coach, Miranda Lissel, was also in attendance to thank the sponsors. She is very excited for what the new building will bring to the Calico team.

“It just helps us to expand our programs. For our mens program we would love to get more equipment in so it’s more beneficial for our men’s program to grow.”

Lissel says that Calico will now be able to expand their trampoline and tumbling programs, as well, and grow those programs.

The project is scheduled to be completed on time and Project Foreman, Greg Graf says that they are well on track to meet that goal, says Janidlo-MacLean, with a grand opening on scheduled for Oct. 1.

Many local industries and businesses have donated to the building. Discovery Ford, Conexus Credit Union, and the City of Humboldt are All Around Sponsors of the project, donating up to and over $50,000.

City Manager, Roy Hardy, was excited to see the progress of the facility and is happy at what the building is going to open up for the city...it’s going to add an element to the programs that we never had in Humboldt before.”

“That facility, now being a partnership arrangement with Calico, we have another facility that is going to up the bar in terms of what we’re going to do.”

While the building is being completed, Calico has been in the Humboldt Curling Club since Jun. 25 and Calico is very happy with the city’s accommodations, says Janidlo-MacLean.
