Care worker charged with abuse

A 24-year -ld working at a group home for severely intellectually and physically disabled people in North Battleford has been charged with physically abusing one of the patients.

A 24-year -ld working at a group home for severely intellectually and physically disabled people in North Battleford has been charged with physically abusing one of the patients.

Ashley Marie Johnson, 24, of North Battleford had been working at the group home on a part-time basis. She is charged with assault and with administering a noxious substance, both under the Criminal Code.

RCMP were contacted on March 28 by the group home. According to RCMP, the victim did suffer some non-life threatening injuries, but made a complete recovery. Johnson is no longer working at the care home.

Her first court appearance was set for 10 a.m. Wednesday in North Battleford Provincial Court. Counsel for the Crown and for Johnson appeared before Judge Violet Meekma and agreed to adjourn the matter to July 6.

RCMP stress the individual charged is not the same Ashley Johnson who works for the Living Skies School Division.
